Welcome to The Gellert Library at Notre Dame de Namur University!
This guide will introduce you to our library and provide useful resources to help you succeed academically at NDNU.
The Gellert Library collection consists of books, periodicals (journals), sound recordings, videos, a number of current newspapers and an extensive reference book collection.
With so many resources to choose from, library research can seem like a daunting task. Luckily, DISCOVERY on the library homepage is an easy and fast starting point to access our resources. DISCOVERY mimics regular web searches but delivers content that the library provides. Even inexperienced researchers can quickly and easily access library resources.
You can also use Librarian-created Subject Guides, which can point you to library books and databases relevant to your subject.
Circulation Desk staff is here to assist with borrowing and renewing books, reserve materials, laptops, headphones, camcorders, and tripods.
Borrowing: Current students are eligible to check out books for 16 weeks. Books can be renewed if they are not requested by another library user. Items on course reserve checkout for either 2 hours, 24 hours, or 7 days, depending on limits set by the professor. For more information, see here: Borrow, Renew, Return.
Reference librarians can help you find information you need for your papers and projects and show you how to use library resources and tools. Librarians can help you in person at the reference desk in the library, via phone at 650-508-3748, via e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org, and through scheduled appointments.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL): You can use this service to request books and articles unavailable at our library. Once ready for pick-up, books will be held in your name at the Gellert Library. Articles will be sent directly to your email. Click here to request an item using this service.
Printing: All computers (not Chromebooks) in the library are connected to printers. For every current student, there will be no charge for the first 250 prints, one-sided, black and white (6 cents for additional prints) for each semester.
Scanning: Scanning is free to all NDNU students. If unsure how to use the scanner, please ask circulation desk staff for help.
Photocopying: Black and white copies cost $0.10 per page, paid by credit or debit card. If unsure how to use the copier, please ask circulation desk staff for help.
Wireless Access (WiFi): The wireless access is available throughout the library. Type ndnu.edu in a browser of your choice. You will be prompted to login with your NDNU student ID and password.
